Springtime in the Rockies
So often the spring equinox in Colorado arrives cold and gray. This year, however, the first day of spring was a time for celebration. Why? Because it really felt like spring! It was warm and sunny with hardly any wind.
The passing of the seasons is one of the great joys of living in Colorado. Experiencing the transformations of the weather, the colors of the landscape, and the energy in the air makes me feel transformed as well.
In the winter there is a feeling of absence. The colors turn to browns, grays and whites. With spring there is an awakening, a new presence burgeoning forth through the bright colors in the budding flowers and blooming trees. The cycle will continue with the fullness of summer and its dying back again in autumn.
This seasonal transition subconsciously influenced the color palette I chose for the artwork I started this week. The hues of the mulberry paper are vibrant and optimistic. My mind is full of creative energy and joy – a feeling of spring!
The only problem is a persistent urge to forget work and go for a ride on my powder blue bicycle, Beatrix – a difficult itch not to scratch on a beautiful spring day like today.
